Just ask Databricks after their $10B funding raise

𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝗜𝗣𝗢𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲.

CEO Ali Ghodsi has been talking about it. Databricks was expected to IPO, but he held off, citing election-year volatility. Instead, they just secured $10 billion in fresh funding, and yes, ya'll, that is the biggest private raise yet. That’s not hesitation. That's impressive.

Databricks made a choice to stay private, keep control, and build up talent without Wall Street pressure. It’s a power move honestly, but could staying private slow them down?

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 -- 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗔𝗪𝗦-𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴.

That’s what I do. I look at hiring data, and here’s what I see:

Databricks is strong, they’re playing to win.
They’re keeping AI engineers, moving aggressively, and they have the cash flow to keep it going.

But if the market shifts again, if AI spending slows, if enterprise buyers hesitate because of the whole Nvidiai/Deepseek story shenanigans, could waiting cost them?

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗜𝗣𝗢 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀

▪️ Palantir is in a fight for defense revenue. If DoD cuts hit hard, they need to replace that cash flow, and fast.

▪️ Snowflake is public, but constrained. They can’t move as freely as Databricks without shareholder scrutiny.

▪️ AWS doesn’t care. They dominate cloud and AI no matter what happens.

So, will Databricks and other companies get lost staying private?
That's the million dollar question... or in Databricks eyes- the $10B question.

Right now, they hold the advantage: $10B in funding, aggressive hiring, and total strategic flexibility. But if the market turns? Competitors with IPO capital might outmaneuver them.

For now? They’re playing to win. But are IPO's the only way to dominate? Think Cargill, Koch, Publix, Mars... I'm not so sure about that.
